Protection was never a shield. It is a light strong enough that nothing has room to darken. Seventy-two bracelets for the new year, in sterling silver, each set with a natural precious gem: a diamond or a blue sapphire.
Thirty-six bracelets set with a natural blue sapphire, thirty-six with a natural diamond. Thirty-six is twice eighteen, a number that has stood for life for about as long as people have been counting. Each piece is numbered by hand and signed on the back of its card.

Wherever the eye was feared, the answer was always something bright.

The eye is among the oldest ideas people recorded. It turns up in Mesopotamian incantations, painted on Greek drinking cups, cast into Roman charms, and wound into glass beads in Anatolian workshops that travelled every trade route crossing the Mediterranean.
The old readings agree on where it starts. Certain practices hold that it begins not as malice but as lack, as what stirs in someone who sees a blessing they feel is missing from their own life. The glance is the last part of it, and the smallest.
Which is why the answer was never a wall. Across the beads, the threads and the charms, what people reached for was something bright, and they wore it where it could be seen. A shield hides you. Light does the opposite.
You do not have to believe any of it for that to hold. What you give, what you are certain of, what you refuse to dim: that is the part that has always done the work. This is a reminder of it, kept at the wrist.
